The Pledge of Allegiance

I pledge allegiance to the Flag
of the United States of America,
and to the Republic for which it stands:
one Nation under God, indivisible,
With Liberty and Justice for all. |

On September 8, 1892 a Boston-based youth magazine "The
Youth's Companion" published a 22-word recitation for school children
to use during planned activities the following month to commemorate the
400th anniversary of Columbus' discovery of America. Under the title "The
Pledge to the Flag", the composition was the earliest version of
what we now know as the PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE.
