PATTON'S LAST BATTLE. by famed historian Charles Whiting. It would commence with the great victory of the Battle of the Bulge. It would end in dismissal, despair and finally death. For despite his victory at Bastogne and his tremendous drive through Southern Germany, his boss Eisenhower, would cruelly relieve him of his post as Governor of Bavaria, take away his beloved Third Army and finally relegate him to the command of the 15th US Army, which existed on paper only. This is the record of Patton's last year until he died, not, ironically, on the battlefield, but peacefully in bed.
